| Dear Mum and Dad, I'm writing to you in English because I've learnt so much already.
It really isn't so difficult! The youngs are very friendly, and I've met so many nice people. Two other students live in the house – a very nice girl
from Italy and a boy from Japan. We've done some interesting things and the weather has been all right.
I need some more books for my course. Could I have some money? I hope you're all well.

Модальные глаголы must, could, should
must
Глагол must встречался нам и раньше, правда, не в том значении, которое он имеет в почтовой открытке Лючии. Но что бы ни означал этот глагол, он всегда сохраняет одну и ту же форму – во всех лицах и числах.
must – должен, должна, должны
I must go on a diet.
Я должна соблюдать диету.
We must speak English.
Мы должны говорить по-английски.
You must tell me.
Ты должен сказать мне.
До сих пор нам было известно, что глагол must выражает предположение (You must be hungry. – Ты, должно быть, голоден.). Теперь мы знаем, что этот глагол употребляется и тогда, когда говорящий считает что-то необходимым (I must go on a diet и т.д.).
could
Глагол could тоже всегда сохраняет одну и ту же форму.
could – мог бы, могла бы, могли бы
We could help you.
Мы могли бы помочь вам.
Could I have some money?
Мог бы я получить немного денег?
Could you send me a photo?
Могли бы вы прислать мне фотографию?
should
Третий модальный глагол этого урока ведет себя также.
should – мне/тебе/ему и т.д. следовало бы

We should go to London.
Нам следовало бы поехать в Лондон.
You should ask him.
Тебе следовало бы спросить его.

Как написать письмо
Теперь вы тоже можете написать несколько строк по-английски, как это сделали Степан и Лючия. Как писать дату, вы уже знаете. Еще важнее знать, как начать и кончить письмо.
Обращение Dear, с которого начинаются оба письма, может стоять в начале любого послания: Dear John, Dear Mrs Cooper, Dear Sir or Madame. После имени ставьте запятую. Восклицательный знак здесь неуместен!
Заканчивают письмо по-разному, в зависимости от того, кому оно адресовано:
для родных и друзей: Love или Lots of love;
для знакомых: Yours или Best regards;
в деловой корреспонденции: Yours sincerely.
